National Nurses Week: Freebies and discounts for health care workers May 6 -12
With restaurants and stores already showing their appreciation towards nurses and health care workers as the front liners of the coronavirus pandemic, locations across the country are showing some extra love for National Nurses Week from May 6 to 12.
The celebration comes at the heels of members of the National Nurses United, the largest union of registered nurses in the U.S., protesting in front of the White House on April 21 to call attention to the thousands of health care workers nationwide who have become infected with COVID-19 due to lack of personal protective equipment.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, thousands of health care workers across the U.S. have contracted COVID-19.
The week commemorates Florence Nightingale’s birthday, the founder of modern nursing.
To show appreciation to first responders, restaurant and other store offers range from free meals to free shoes. Many of the deals were already in effect before National Nurses Week, and require a valid form of ID.

Participation and offers can vary by location. Some will require you to have a restaurant’s app, a third party delivery service or be signed up for emails.
Adidas: The shoe brand is offering 40% off purchases on their website for verified medical professionals, first responders, nurses, and military members. Eligible customers can verify their IDs by visiting adidas.com/us/discount-programs
Chipotle: Health care workers can get a free burrito starting on May 6. Eligibility requirements are available on Chipotle’s offer website.
Circle K: Free coffee and tea are available to first responders, health care workers, and to their store employees. Those who wish to take advantage of the offer must show a valid ID.
Crocs: Free shoes are available for health care workers every day on Crocs’ website at 12 p.m. ET. The freebie is available through the offer website.
Dunkin’: Health care workers craving Dunkin’ can get a free medium hot or iced coffee and a free doughnut when visiting operating locations. There is no purchase necessary to get this offer.
Hooters: A 20% discount on all food takeout orders is available every day for health care workers, first responders and military until further notice. A valid form of ID required.
Krispy Kreme: First responders can get free dozens every Monday from March 30 through May 11. Just go to a Krispy Kreme drive-thru, show your employer badge and collect your doughnuts.
McDonald’s: Health care workers, police officers, firefighters, and paramedics across the country can get free Thank You Meals from McDonald’s. The offer is available all day through May 5.
Nike: Eligible medical professionals and first responders in the U.S. can get a 20% off discount through Nike’s online store. Customers can receive the discount by visiting nike.com/help/a/first-responder-discount
The North Face: From April 14 to Dec. 31 North Face is offering a 50% discount to health care workers in the U.S. To verify eligibility, health care workers can visit the offer page.
Outback: A 10% discount is available to nurses, doctors, and medical staff, first responders, and military. Plus delivery is free for a limited time. A valid medical, state, or federal service ID is required.
Sheetz: Nurses and first responders can get a free extra kick of coffee with Sheetz’s new offer. Hospital workers, police officers, firefighters, and paramedics can get the freebie through June 1, 2020, at locations across the country.
Snickers: Coupons for free Snickers bars are available for essential workers, who may validate the coupons at a Walmart. To send a coupon to an essential worker, customers can visit sendasnickersfromhome.com
Starbucks: The coffee giant is giving free coffee to customers who identify as a front line worker to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Talkspace: A free month of therapy for doctors, nurses, social workers, and front line workers is available through Talkspace. To access this benefit, register with an NPI and/or work badge after downloading the Talkspace app.
